Let’s use this area to discuss and brainstorm our Technology Resources.

1. What is it and how do I use it?
2. Provide a description of a specific technology that supports 21st century skills. Include the basic knowledge and steps necessary to begin using this technology.

"Tikatok"- Student books online
This website supports 21st century skills because it encourages students to use technology to further their education. Students are creating their own original stories, or specific ones based on the teacher's assignment, adding their own pictures, and publishing their own stories.
The steps are very basic and simple.
1. Teacher registers for a free account
2. Students create stories online (it shows them exactly where they need to type on each page)
3. Click the button to publish stories - either through print or web.

The technology I found and will elaborate on is “Google Docs.” This technology resource allows teachers and students to create and collaborate on assessments and ideas. In order to use this tool you must create a Google account. Then, click on “Google Docs” located in your Gmail Account. Students also have to create a Google account. This technology allows students to create, collaborate, and share PowerPoint presentations, word documents, and so much more. This 21st tool allows teachers and students to work together to create effective measurements of assessment. It allows students to work together to create PowerPoints, word documents, spreadsheets, forms, and drawings. An individual must have basic computer and typing skills to use this technology.

The steps necessary to begin using this technology is as follows:
1. Create a Google Account
2. Log into your Gmail Account (E-mail account)
3. Click on “Documents” at the top left of your computer screen
4. Click on Create New- You can create a word document, presentation, spreadsheet, form, or drawing without any other programs
5. Click on the assessment you would like to create
6. Create the assessment and save
7. The assessment will always be in your “Google Docs” and you can share the assessment you created with other Google members

The technology I found to share is called Fact Monster. The possibilities with this wonderful site are really endless. From research databases to a homework center, Fact Monster is a wonderful resource for K-8 students.

Fact Monster is a free site and requires no sign up or user name for you or your students. You can conduct research by subject or topic, and Fact Monster retrieves fact, informations, charts, diagrams, and pictures. In addition to the research component, Fact Monster has interactive activities such as math flash cards and an application to create word webs and diagrams. In the Homework Center, students can find tips for paper writing, speeches, maximizing listening skills, or conducting interviews. This site also has features for different assessments.

This site is undoubtedly a 21st century upgrade for those heavy World Books we all remember! Students can use this website individually or with a small group to conduct any type of research on any topic. This website would also be wonderful on a Promethean Board or SmartBoard for a whole group interactive activity. The website is very user friendly and easy to navigate. Students simply need to type in the URL and begin exploration to see all the site has to offer. Please check it out athttp://www.factmonster.com/.

1.) To search the Monster Facts Database, go to Fact Monster (www.factmonster.com) and select the “Math” icon.
2.) Choose a key shapes term from the key term list on the Shapes Pathfinder homepage. Next, you need to type the key shape term that you want to search and click on the “go” icon.
3.) A list of results will appear. Choose the article that you would like to review.

4.) You can take another approach to searching this site by clicking on the “Math” icon.

In addition, as I completed the research for this assignment, I found so many different technology resources that I had no idea even existed! Because research and note taking has really been on my mind lately because of the work in this class, I found two wonderful sites for note taking and referencing that I would like to share.

The first site is called Web-Chops and it is for bookmarking and referencing. Web-Chops allows you to clip out any part of a webpage then save and share these clips. It can be a great way to study for tests or prepare for papers in a more interactive fashion. After looking over this tool, I found myself wishing that it had been available for my use during high school and undergrad! While researching a topic, students can use Web-Chops to compile the pertinent information that they discover online. Students can then use the compiled information to complete a presentation or paper. With such a vast amount of information available online, this tool is wonderful because it allows students to capture the most important aspects from each website they research.

Students will need to visit this site and create a free account before use!

The second site is called MyNoteIt. This awesome tool allows students to take and store their notes online, edit them with the help of classmates, and look up terms with which they are not familiar. Whether students are reading or watching a DVD in the classroom, this tool puts an interactive and 21st upgrade on note-taking. Another benefit of this tool is that it stores an saves the students notes online so that they are able to access them at all time from any computer! This also eliminates the possibility of students losing the notes they have taken for a test or project.

Flashcard Machine was very easy to use. Students will first need to create an account. They will then recieve an e-mail confirmation before being able to do anything else for those definitions..

Students will then need to create a set of terms. I would give students a set of terms. I would instruct them to find definitions of their own and then create slang. For example, the term Alien & Sedition Act students could use "go home & shut up." Since the act was about citizens not speaking out against the government and then immigrants being sent home who did speak out. I would then encourage my students to find images that went along with the term or to create a digital one of their own.

Once on the website, students would be able to enter each term one by and can even leave the defintion blank to come back later. Once the whole set is complete students will save the whole set and add images where appriopriate.

Once done, students can study multiple sets and they can also print if they so choose.
